Expecting a new baby? If so, CONGRATULATIONS!

Children are a precious gift; each is special and unique. And whether this is your first child or not, we can help you give your baby the healthy start she/he deserves.

Courtesy Visit

If this is your first baby or you are new to our practice, call our office to schedule a free prenatal or “meet the doctor”. If you’ve been referred to us by a friend or another physician, this free visit is a great opportunity for you and your spouse or partner to meet the doctor, ask questions and learn more about our practice.

The Hospital Visit

Inform your obstetrician and the hospital that you would like for Dr. Fernando Sosa to be your baby’s pediatrician. He see patients at the following hospitals:

  • Doctors Hospital of Laredo
  • Laredo Medical Center Hospital

When your baby is born, we’ll be contacted and Dr. Sosa will come to the hospital to thoroughly examine your baby and discuss any questions you have. If you wish to have your son circumcised just let us know. Even though Dr. Sosa does not do circumcisions due to time constraints, he will arrange for the Neonatologist to do it at the hospital prior to your son being discharged from the hospital.

If you deliver your baby at a hospital other than those listed above, a hospital staff pediatrician will examine your baby in the hospital. When you call for your baby’s first office visit, inform the scheduler where your child was delivered so we may schedule plenty of time to thoroughly examine your baby and answer any questions you might have.

If you deliver via cesarean the Neonatologist will see your baby while in the nursery but you can still choose Dr. Sosa to be your pediatrician and make arrangements with our office for your baby’s first office visit.

The First Office Visit

Unless we advise you otherwise, we usually like to see your baby for the first office visit when she/he is about 7 days old. Contact our offices as soon as possible to schedule this first visit.

Baby’s Health Insurance

It is important to contact your health insurance carrier as soon as possible after baby’s birth, and to advise them that you’ve chosen Dr Fernando Sosa as baby’s primary care provider (PCP), if one is required. We accept, and are network providers, for most commercial insurance plans.

Regardless of your particular insurance plan it is important that you understand your benefits. Thanks to recent healthcare reform laws, most health plans are required to provide 100% coverage for routine wellness care visits and immunizations.
